Last night my 21-month old daughter grabbed a book, scrambled up the couch, sat on the edge, got my attention with a "papa!" and patted the space next to her. A clear invitation for me to join her. She opened the book and proceeded her best to read, really a narration of the first pages. My part was to read the rest to her.
Why is she interested? Is it a love of books? Trying to read? Seeing the pictures? Hearing me read? Spending time with me (my vote)?
Maybe it is best to simply let great things be. Nevertheless, it's an accomplishment to create similar enthusiasm on campus. Methods are different, ingredients the same.
p.s. Thanks to my wife for instilling a love of books in our daughter!
